Awarded Most Innovative Use of the Medium in 2004

During my studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and Southern Illinois University, I focused on metals in combination with fiber, mixed medium and found objects. I now create elaborate one of a kind pieces for adornment, deep with spiritual and historical meaning. I have spent seventeen years collecting and researching ceremonial objects and Talismans from many cultures. This research is an integral part of my work.

I consider myself a contemporary builder of Talismans utilizing objects of my own culture. My recent work has been building a six figure circus troop complete with removable and wearable jewelry. These framed wall pieces make use of light, shadow, negative and positive space to silhouette their form.

My process in metalwork is different than traditional techniques because of the fragile materials I incorporate into my work. I have become inventive with alternative attachments for both movement and stability making use of cold joining.

I am a recent author of a handbook written for the metals and jewelry industry called, Making Connections- A Handbook of Cold Joins for the Jeweler and Mixed Media Artist. This book offers nine chapters on alternative and appropriate connections for building and attaching jewelry.

As a professional artist, and jeweler my work has been featured in museums, galleries and shows through out the United States and Europe.
